Accomplishments
- Met AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) for MAP 2003, 2004, and 2005
- Opened as a charter public school August 2002 to serve kindergarten through sixth grade students
- Increased enrollment yearly
- Member of the Basic School Network
- Developed a curriculum based upon new classroom materials such as Scholastic Guided Reading and Saxon Mathematics and aligned with the Missouri Show Me Standards and Grade Level Expectations
- Moved to a larger location with improved facilities in August 2004
- Sixth grade water study project received state recognition (2003-2004)
- Literacy based curriculum augmented by weekly classes in music, art, physical education, library, computers, and Spanish
- Increased library books and periodicals by over 4000 and computerized the library/media center
- Installed computers in each classroom and developed a technology center for multiple student use on the wireless network
- Received two Federal Charter School Start Up Grants
- Received a grant from Young Audiences for Chinese painting workshops
- Joined the State and National Parent Teachers Association (PTA)
- Over 90% of families participated in the fall Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences
- Kept average annual per pupil expenditure at $6,374 which is more than $1,000 less than the state average
- Average daily attendance is 95%
- Youth Friends provide mentors and volunteers
- Instituted Saturday School to provide in depth MAP preparation
